Marks and evaluations

Marks
The significance of marks is toned down as much as possible. In practice this means that only the marks required by law are given, and that marks are not given or referred to in our day-to-day teaching. This is essential because it brings out the most important aspects of education, viz. learning and cooperation, not ambition and competition. For this reason alternative and more personal evaluations are required. Thus, also written work is evaluated through written and occasionally oral feed back, which generally replaces marks.

Evaluations of teachers and pupils
Evaluations take place regularly at the school, in the shape of conversations that may be accompanied by written statements. The teachers evaluate each pupil in a private conversation, but the class as a whole is evaluated as well. Likewise the teachers are evaluated by the pupils. In each case the evaluation covers both academic and social performance, and in the pupil's case also his/her abilities as a student. Teachers are expected to conduct mutual teacher-class evaluations twice a year. (Each class may, however, agree with their teacher upon a different arrangement that suits them better, if they so wish)

The purpose of the evaluation is to give both pupils and teachers a clear impression of how their work is estimated in order to facilitate improvement.
